Funny Anime Memes Being Single Funny Anime
There used to be a time when being an otaku was hard. Not only did nobody know what "those weird Japanese cartoons" were, but people also ridiculed and ostracized those who actively enjoyed watching anime or reading manga. With the passage of time, those attitudes have changed. There still are detractors, but the voice of anime fans is louder now.
The easiest way to see this change in attitudes is how the anime community is now flooded with A grade material memes. Be it funny or downright emotional ones, the fandom has it all. Here are 10 of the funniest anime memes otakus are going to enjoy!
10 Anime V/S Manga Readers
It's no secret that a vast majority of anime are adapted from manga, their source material. Due to budgetary constraints, only portions of said manga are made into anime (usually beginning from chapter 1).
The later chapters are often left un-animated. This is why those who read manga are way ahead when compared to their anime counterparts. This meme alludes to the fact that manga readers already know what's going to happen in the anime while highlighting the rivalry between manga readers and anime-only watchers.
9 You Too, Light?
Every otaku worth their salt knows how annoying it is to have to wait for their favorite series to buffer. It is especially grating when the buffering takes longer than the actual 20-minute episode of the anime.
Of course, all of this happens because of two reasons – poor internet speed or an unstable Wi-Fi connection. This meme makes use of a still from the extremely famous anime, Death Note (where Light and L are constantly playing a game of chase with each other)
8 Friends?
There's a running joke in the anime community as to how a sizable chunk of fans are shut-ins who refuse to socialize with people. Instead, they prefer to binge-watch series after series of anime.
Their only friends are other anime fans, but of course, that is assuming they haven't already bickered ferociously on who the best waifu is. Memes work well for self-deprecating humor, and this is a prime example.
7 Hell, here I come
The anime community is rife with "waifu" jokes (and sadly, not as many husbando jokes). For the uninitiated, "waifu" is simply a copy of the Japanese pronunciation of the English word "wife," which has always been used to signify a fan's ultimate anime woman, aka the character they would love to marry.
Over the years, the anime community has witnessed huge waifu wars. At times, it can seem like otakus are more emotionally attached to their waifus than they are to actual human beings. That extreme passion is just part of the fun.
6 Dang it, Lays
This one is actually a universal meme since even non-otakus are extremely familiar with how chips companies engineered the "snacks in a bag of air" movement across the globe.
Obviously that never really happened, but it goes on to show that with the passage of time, the bags of chips bought from the supermarket have a lot more air than chips in them.
5 Task Manager Not Responding
This meme is quite clever. Fans of KonoSuba will already know where this screengrab is from and what the context is. For those who don't, the MC is shouting at Aqua who's supposed to be a powerful Goddess but is almost useless when it comes to things that actually matter.
Kind of how the Task Manager is used to shut down applications that are not working, but it ends up "not responding" and inspiring a lot of anger itself.
4 Damn It, Netflix!
This meme has nothing against Kevin Hart, who is a pretty decent actor. It simply goes on to show how completely different Netflix adaptations of anime and manga tend to be from the source material. So far these differences have gone from bad to worse, with the best example of this being Netflix's adaptation of Death Note.
They changed everything about it that made the anime great (most prominently, Light's personality and massive plot changes). Netflix assumed hardcore otakus would accept those changes without a single word of disagreement. Boy, were they in for a shock.
3 Deception 101
There's no denying how extremely attractive anime characters are, especially when it comes to their bright and colorful designs. When contrasted with the faces of real people, the difference becomes stark.
This meme is a jab at fans who often use the pictures of anime characters as their profile pictures. If nothing else, it does highlight the person's interest in anime, perhaps making it easier to meet like-minded individuals.
2 Kawaii Desu
This isn't something limited to anime fans, since Japan is extremely popular (or notorious, depending on how you look at it) for making everything cute or "kawaii."
From toilet seats to toilet paper, school classrooms to their public trains, everything in Japan is adorable and is available in at least a dozen bright colors. This is something that has become a sort of an acquired taste among anime fans, who prefer cuter versions of everything in their lives.
1 Sauce?
Anime meme pages are notorious for posting screenshots from the most obscure of anime without informing readers which series or movie the gif/image is from.
This is why one can see many meme's comments sections filled with nothing but the question "Sauce?" In normal human terms, this means "Source [of the image]?"
